Penumbra: Black Plague

The narrative of Penumbra: Black Plague opens with an email from Philip Buchanon to a friend, describing the events he has experienced and asking them to complete the task he was unable to finish. The game is then told largely as a flashback, with Philip recounting the story from the point where Penumbra: Overture ended.

As with its predecessor, Black Plague is a survival horror game focused on exploration. Rather than emphasizing combat, the game centers on avoiding hostile creatures and surviving encounters through stealth and evasion. Unlike Overture, players can no longer craft weapons or set traps, making direct confrontation largely impossible. Progression is driven by exploration, environmental interaction, and the completion of a variety of physics-based puzzles.
