Description
Resident Evil is a 1996 survival horror game developed and published by Capcom for the PlayStation. It marks the first main entry in the long-running series. Set in the fictional Arklay Mountains in the American Midwest, the story follows S.T.A.R.S. operatives Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine as they investigate a series of mysterious murders and become trapped in a mansion overrun by zombies and other grotesque creatures.
Players choose between Chris and Jill, each offering a slightly different experience, as they search the Spencer Mansion for missing teammates while attempting to uncover the truth and find a way to escape. The game uses a third-person perspective with fixed camera angles and pre-rendered backgrounds, creating a tense and cinematic atmosphere. Gameplay blends combat, exploration, puzzle-solving, and careful inventory management.
Resident Evil helped establish many core elements of the survival horror genre, including limited resources, typewriter-based saving, and a health status system in place of a traditional health bar. Widely regarded as a landmark title, it is often listed among the most influential video games ever made and, alongside Alone in the Dark, is credited with shaping the foundations of survival horror.

Resident Evil *Steam Enhancement Pack*
This enhancement pack is designed for the Steam release. It includes everything listed in the GOG enhancement pack, and also:
- Installs REbirth in a "rebirth" subfolder instead of replacing the Japanese data files
- Includes MulderConfig, which fixes the Steam Overlay (as well as Steam Time Tracking and Steam Input) and allows switching between the REbirth and classic executables
- Downgrades the executables to the GOG versions and includes the GOG DX Wrapper (since MulderConfig completely replaces the CAPCOM Launcher, which prevents the Steam Overlay from working)

Resident Evil *GOG Enhancement Pack*
This enhancement pack is designed for the Japanese installation available on GOG and does the following:
- Installs Classic REbirth in your GOG (japanese) installation folder
- Installs graphical improvements (click on details for more information) and dgVoodoo2
- Patches the Classic REbirth executable to allow 4 GB of memory
- Installs high-quality FMVs (click on details for more information)
- Installs high-quality audio (click on details for more information)
- Fixes the "Some of the data have been damaged" error on launch, which occurs when using a non-administrator account
- Optionally installs translation patches
