Description
The open world is set in USA, Massachusetts, including the Boston city. The story takes place in 2287, 10 years after Fallout 3 and 210 years after the "Great War".
You play as the "Sole Survivor" who emerges from a long-term cryogenic stasis in Vault 111, a nuclear shelter. After witnessing the murder of their spouse and the kidnapping of their son Shaun, the Sole Survivor ventures out into the Commonwealth to search for their missing child.
Compared to previous games, players can now develop and manage settlements, and there's a more advanced crafting system. It's also the first game in the series to feature a fully voiced protagonist.

Notes
This installer is for Fallout 4 owners on Steam who are on the latest version (v1.11.191) and wish to downgrade to an earlier version.
It can downgrade to :
- v1.10.163 (pre-next-gen version) released in 2019, usually the best and most compatible for mods
- v1.10.984 (next-gen, update 2) released in 2024
- v1.11.169 (anniversary, november patch) released in 2025
Unlike other downgrader tools, this one works with all editions (base game, GOTY, or any in-between) and all languages.
It also doesn’t require your Steam credentials. Instead, it downloads Steam depots "delta" I’ve created using these Powershell scripts.
Owners of Fallout 4 on GOG are not concerned, as GOG never received the "next-gen" update. Their version of the game is already on v1.10.163.
