The Simpsons Game

The Simpsons Game is a 2007 platform and action game based on the popular animated television series The Simpsons. Released on several consoles a few months after The Simpsons Movie, the game tells a completely original story that is not connected to the events of the film. The script was written specifically for the game by The Simpsons writers Tim Long and Matt Warburton.

True to the show's sense of humor, the game features a highly self-referential storyline. The Simpson family eventually realizes that they have become characters in a new video game and must deal with the strange rules, conventions, and situations that come with being part of one. The story also takes plenty of opportunities to parody popular culture and poke fun at familiar video game tropes.

All five members of the Simpson family are playable, with each character having their own unique abilities. Most levels allow the player to control two family members, switching between them to make use of their respective skills and overcome the various challenges found throughout the adventure.

In terms of gameplay, The Simpsons Game combines elements from several genres. The adventure is primarily built around platforming and action sequences, with relatively simple hand-to-hand combat also playing an important role. Some sections have the feel of a light beat 'em up, as players fight groups of enemies while making their way through the levels. Exploration, puzzles, and the use of each character's special abilities remain central to the overall experience.
