Description
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an action RPG developed by Bethesda Game Studios and originally released in 2011 by Bethesda Softworks. The Special Edition followed in October 2016, bringing together the game's three major DLC expansions with improved visuals and other technical enhancements.
Set in the vast northern province of Skyrim, the game offers a large open world inspired by Scandinavian landscapes and mythology. Players can explore the world from either a first-person or third-person perspective, traveling through forests, mountains, caves, ruins, dungeons, cities, villages, and fortified settlements. Exploration can be done on foot or by horseback, while paid carriage rides and fast travel provide quicker ways to reach locations that have already been discovered.

Notes
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim SE *Steam Downgrader*
This downgrader works with the latest Steam version of Skyrim SE (v1.7.104, released in August 27, 2026) and can revert it to:
- v1.5.97, an older version from November 2019 (only recommended if you're using an old modlist)
- v1.6.640, from September 2022 (still useful for many modlists)
- v1.6.1170, from January 2024. This was the version immediately before the August 20, 2026 update.
- v1.7.99, from August 20, 2026. Useful if the hotfix from August 27, 2026 breaks things for you.
Download the small executable, launch it, and follow the instructions. This installer will then download the necessary files for the game and proceed with the installation.
UPDATE 26.08.12:
- Fixed an issue with the 1.5.97 downgrade (non-English versions) where the xdelta patches were not applied in some cases.
- The installer now detects whether "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Skyrim Special Edition\ContentCatalog.txt" exists and is in the v1.7.99 format. If so, it prompts the user to rename it to "ContentCatalog.bak". This should fix the few crashes reported by users. Thanks to SNT01 for the info!
- The installer also clears the "Data\ShaderCache" folder, just in case.
UPDATE 26.08.18:
- Updated for the v1.7.104 version (August 27, 2026), with a new downgrade path to allow v1.7.99 downgrade too.
- Better Linux and Steam Deck support. Game folder should now be detected automatically in most cases. I'll continue to improve that.

The second downgrader allows you to downgrade the "Skyrim Special Edition: Creation Kit" to 3 earlier versions: v1.6.438.0, v1.6.1130.0 and v1.6.1378.
