About Doom
Doom is arguably the most famous FPS series. Back then, we even called these kinds of games "Doom-like."
Doom 1 was released in 1993, followed by Doom 2 in 1994. You play as a space marine, later known as "the Doomguy", and you fight hordes of invading demons.
Despite their age, Doom 1 & 2 are not abandonware. They are still sold and even still updated.
About Freedoom
Freedoom is an open source project based on the Doom Engine (which is free), that aims to recreate free replacement for assets and levels.
It includes 3 IWADs :
- Freedoom: Phase 1 (first campaign)
- Freedoom: Phase 2 (second campaign)
- FreeDM (deathmatch levels)
Freedoom's gameplay remains faithful to that of Doom: rapid-fire action, demonic monsters, and labyrinthine levels.

Notes
The version offered here is packaged with GZDoom and contains:
- Freedoom Phase 1 (inspired by Doom 1)
- Freedoom Phase 2 (inspired by Doom 2)
- FreeDM (multiplayer maps)
- The Doom 1 Shareware (optional)
Download the small executable, launch it, and follow the instructions. This installer will then download the necessary files for the game and proceed with the installation.
